Texture fix for some games on TouchPad

Some games have problem to display texture properly on TouchPad. Here is the texture fix for these games:

1. Install the game as usual and RESTART YOUR DEVICE.
2. Download the metadata.json file http://www.filesonic.com/file/1882737844/
3. Connect the Touchpad via USB and transfer the extracted file "metadata.json"to the "downloads" folder. (or using box.net, TBtransfer)
4. Start Internalz Pro on the Touchpad and go to /media/internal/downloads, where you will find the "metadata.json" file.
5. Copy it to the /media/cryptofs/apps/usr/palm/applications/(whatever game) directory.

Now this texture display issue on TouchPad should be fixed.

User reivew of HP TouchPad for the first 3 days

Here is a simple review of HP TouchPad from a user 3 days after he/she got his new gadget.

1.     TouchPad is good for surfing as it has a full functional browser, which performs well for most websites. The browser on TouchPad works fine with the full desktop version of Gmail and it can play videos on Youtube smoothly.
2.     The music player on TouchPad supports mp3 and m4a. Users can simply copy the complete itunes directory into TouchPad and get all songs played without any problem. The only issue is that tags are not read correctly and covers cannot only be displayed.
3.     The Video player on TouchPad can play 720P movies smoothly.
4.     For ebooks reading, the Kindle App is pretty good to read ebooks for Kindle without any problem. pReader can read .mobi, awz, epub. However, it needs to preprocess epub files before opening them for the first time and it takes half hour to process a 4MB epub file.
5.     TouchPad also has Skype app, whose audio works and video only works for 1 minutes. Then it will freeze and the video can work for another 1 minute after restart. Moreover, users cannot see video of counterparts while counterparts can see video from TouchPad.
6.     Mail client on TouchPad is excellent and it also can sync contacts from Gmail
7.     TouchPad has Quick Office pre-installed， which can access Dropbox directly. The limitation of the pre-installed Quick Office on TouchPad is that it can only view documents but not edit them. It can read PDF pretty well except that the font could be a little bit blur when zooming in/out.
8.     Users register Box.net accounts from TouchPad can get 50GBcloud storage for free. Though Box.net doesn’t have a good PC clien, which limits its usage, it is good enough to put ebooks and other documents.
9.     There are much less games on TouchPad comparing with iPad. But at least there is free version of Angry Birds on TouchPad and the price of Rio on TouchPad is also cheaper than the iPad version.
10.     As the lowest price of TouchPad is only 100$, it is really cost effective comparing with Kindle, which cost at least 114$

According the user experience mentioned above, the HP TouchPad is strongly recommended for users, who would like to have a gadget to deal with daily task like surfing web, reading ebooks, watching videos and so on.

Download of 20 packaged apps for TouchPad

After downloading and testing many apps on my TouchPad 32GB ordered from HP home, I packaged my personal recommended WebOS apps for TouchPad that can be downloaded from the link below. Apps with .ipk suffix need to be installed with PreWare on TouchPad or WebOSQuickInstall on PC. Detailed steps can be found in another post.

Please notice that after installation, when the system prompts there are new versions available, don't update via HP Apps. You should wait till there is ipk for the new version and reinstall after uninstalling the old version first. Otherwise, the app will not work. TouchPad should still be hot for a while and there may be more excellent apps for it. Here is my personal recommended apps list below:

8. Advanced Browser，a web browser supporting multiple tabs
9. KalemSoft Media Player，supporting most media formats except rmvb, which is supported since version 0.3.7. Only demo available and it cannot play local files when offline.
10. Touchplayer, which can play rmvb format, though there is heavy lag and no slide bar
11. Video Flood HD, providing a lot of video podcasts, TV shows or movies
12. Camera for TouchPad，the pre-installed camera app for TouchPad
13. Photo Effects Pro, an image editing app
14. Market Pulse HD v1.0.2, a real time stock information app
15. Gemini File Manager v1.6.0, a very handy file management app, which supports dropbox and box.net in the latest version.
16. Multitouch Piano HD v1.0.1, a virtual piano app http://www.filesonic.com/file/1834945434 
17. Localscope Ver. 1.0.3, an app to search local information such as restaurants according to location
18. TBtransfer, a handy bidirectional file transfer app for LAN. The TouchPad and PC must connect to the same router, PC with windows needs to run TBaccess.exe service and PC with Linux or Mac needs to run TBaccess.jar. TBtransfer on TouchPad will automatically search PC on the same LAN. Then users can choose and transfer files.
